VRcade
VRcade is a VR game that puts the players in an 80's themed arcade with two different machines to play.
The brief
This game was created as part of the VR topic, in a group, during my time at AIE. The project was split up into halves.
The first half lasted 2 weeks had the designers and programmers working together to design and build the systems for a VR title. Our group consisted of three designers, including myself, and single programmer. We discussed our strengths and weaknesses and figured out how we were best going to create a VR experience that was fun and functional. After figuring out one of the designers was able to write music, we quickly landed on making an 80's arcade with two functioning arcade machines. One of the machines was a 'whack-a-mole' minigame where the moles would appear in sync with the beat of the song, and also a shooting gallery machine where the players would have to shoot targets that continually appeared.

After the initial 2 weeks were up, four artists joined our team and we quickly caught them up to speed on the project and spoke to them about what art assets we would need. We had two weeks to work with the artists to
finalize the game and its art.

Development Time: 4 weeks
Team Size: 8
Engine: Unity
My roles
My role during the first two weeks was to work with our programmer to figure out the VR workflow using Unity's XR plugin with a Quest 2 headset. During this time I also worked with our programmer to make sure the 'whack-a-mole' minigame felt impactful, was easy to use and easy to understand for new players. To do this I had a few playtesting sessions, then tweaked and polished the experience.

During the section phase of development, I was then liaising with the artists to quickly concept flesh out the art assets we had. I was also responsible for importing the models and textures into Unity, and for the positioning of all the props within our level. I also placed the detailing on the walls, floors and ceilings.
