software rollout

HiveMindLogo.png

In Software Rollout the player controls BA-11 and follow on his quest to escape a long since abandoned underground factory.
BA-11's main purpose in the life before was to act as a control unit, giving him the ability to control robotic 'shells' and use their abilities to aid in his escape.

The brief

This project was created for my final production assessment in 2021.

The assessment required that a playable game be delivered after a period of 6 weeks. We were put into a group of 9 and given 2 weeks of pre-production to come up with 2 different game concepts and pitches. We then presented these pitches to our trainers and they then picked the one we would enter production with.

Weekly meetings were held with trainers who acted in the role of clients where the build and progress were demonstrated.

Team: Myself, 2 designers, 2 programmers and 4 artists.
Development Time: 5 months.
Engine: Unity

My roles

Vision Holder

My role as Vision Holder meant that I was in charge of making sure that all the content in the game was cohesive and matched the GDD that was created.

This involved constant communication with the team as a whole but also with the leads of each stream to make sure the the work being done was actually viable for the product being created.

Lead Designer

Being Lead Designer meant that I was responsible for the oversight of all design work being done to make sure it was useable for the project. This included levels, puzzles, sounds, game mechanics etc.

For this project my main work was focused nearly entirely outside of Unity, as I was always helping and managing the team. One of my biggest tasks was over seeing the source control as we only had 6 weeks of production time, and couldn't afford any set backs.

I was also in charge of bringing everyone's work together into one build for each demonstration, and for the final product.

Outcome

At the end of our production our game was given the 'Best Art' award of which I am super proud of the team for creating such an amazing product, in only 6 weeks.
